The number of Chinese home appliance patent applications ranks first in the world
Recently, Qianzhan Industry Research Institute released the status of patent applications in the home appliance industry as of December 12, 2022. The search keywords for the statistical caliber of the application are: home appliances and similar or related keywords.
Among them, as the world's largest source of home appliance technology, China's home appliance patent applications accounted for 67.34% of the world's total home appliance patent applications. The number of patent applications for home appliances in Japan ranks second, accounting for 7.61% of the total number of patent applications for home appliances in the world. Although the United States and South Korea ranked third and fourth, accounting for 6.68% and 6.14% respectively.
In terms of trends, before 2012, the number of patent applications for home appliances in China was not much different from that of other countries, but the gap gradually widened after 2012. In 2021, the number of patent applications for home appliances in China will be 44,500. The number of patent applications related to home appliances in the United States is second only to China, and the overall trend is also on the rise, with 1,706 in 2021.
The top 10 applicants for the number of patent applications in the global home appliance industry are Zhuhai Gree Electric Co., Ltd., Haier Smart Home Co., Ltd., Midea Group Co., Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., State Grid Corporation of China, BSH Household Appliances Co., Ltd., and Joyoung Co., Ltd. Co., Ltd., Qingdao Haier Air Conditioner Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Robam Electric Co., Ltd. and LG Electronics Co., Ltd.
Among them, Zhuhai Gree Electric Appliances Co., Ltd. has the largest number of home appliance patent applications, with 5,725 items. Haier Smart Home Co., Ltd. and Midea Group Co., Ltd. had 3,960 and 3,737 home appliance patent applications, respectively.
In China, Guangdong is currently the province with the largest number of home appliance patent applications in China, and the cumulative number of current home appliance patent applications is as high as 66,700. Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shanghai, and Beijing are currently applying for more than 10,000 home appliance patents. The top ten provinces in China currently applying for provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) for household appliance patents include Anhui, Fujian, Henan and Hubei.
In terms of trends, from 2010 to 2014, the number of home appliance patents in various provinces and cities is not much different. Since 2015, the number of patent applications in Guangdong Province has increased significantly, reaching 12,700 by 2021, far exceeding that of enterprise provinces. The number of home appliance patents in Zhejiang and Jiangsu is second only to Guangdong, and there is a trend of "following each other". The number of home appliance patents in Shandong has grown rapidly since 2019 after Zhejiang and Jiangsu.
